Who doesn’t like a good challenge? Whether it is solving a puzzle or figuring out how to hang an antenna. But all hams should like this challenge- especially if you are interested in HF radio, portable operations, and low power-yes, QRP. The bands have been pretty favorable so It is only appropriate that we stretch our operating abilities with a QRP challenge.
This year’s QRP challenge will take place in the morning before the CARS annual Fall picnic. That means we will get a little earlier start so as not to interfere with the picnic preparations. Don K4NAX easily took honors at the last QRP challenge with his many DX CW contacts. Who will challenge Don this time?
QRP CHALLENGE DETAILS This year’s QRP challenge will have 3 categories. A QRP “limbo”-how low can you go? “Most contacts”, and “Furthest distance”. Bring your rig-even if it is a QRO rig and turn down the power, and your favorite antenna. You pick the mode, but remember you will have a time limit during which to make your contacts.
Don’t have a rig but are interested? Come on out and see if you can “hitch a ride” on someone else’s station. Given the nature of the timing, we would like people to RSVP for the event so that we can better coordinate it.
- QRP Limbo-how low can you go

- Most distant contact
