Ponce de Leon’s Voyages to Florida Juan Ponce de Leon, the Spanish explorer, embarked on several voyages to Florida during the early 16th century. His most famous expedition took place in 1513, when he set sail in search of new lands and riches. During this voyage, Ponce de Leon arrived at or near the mouth of Charlotte Harbor, spending several weeks exploring the area. However, his encounter with local Native American tribes turned hostile, and he was forced to return to Puerto Rico. |
